Justice Department Subpoenas Relatives of Representative Omar
On Monday, Department of Homeland Security agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Representative Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C., home, removing boxes of documents as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation into immigration paperwork.
Federal investigators are scrutinizing whether Omar or her late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, lied on immigration forms to secure U.S. citizenship, specifically examining if they altered her age to indicate she was 17 rather than 18.
Agents seized personal computers, a passport, and notebooks during the raid, while prosecutors issued more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas to family members, including Omar's sister, Sahra Noor, to gather evidence.
Omar condemned the search as an attempt to "target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement," while President Donald Trump denied involvement, stating he had "nothing to do with" the raid.
Attorney Norman L. Eisen requested an investigation into whether officials violated the Hatch Act by "orchestrating" the search, as legal observers note that revoking citizenship requires proof of material misrepresentation in federal court.
