Jury Recommends Life Sentence without Parole for 4 Men Guilty in Killing of Jacksonville Rapper Julio Foolio
Jurors rejected prosecutors’ death penalty request after a weeklong penalty phase and recommended life sentences for Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy and Rashad Murphy.
On Friday, a Hillsborough County jury recommended life in prison without parole for four men convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Jacksonville rapper Charles 'Julio Foolio' Jones.
Prosecutors described the June 2024 killing as a coordinated hit stemming from an ongoing gang war between Jones's 6Block group and rival gangs ATK and 1200.
Evidence presented during trial showed the group tracked Jones's social media posts to locate him in Tampa, using AR-style weapons equipped with devices to collect shell casings.
State Attorney Suzy Lopez thanked the jury for their service following the recommendation, and official sentencing for the four men is scheduled for June 22.
Sentencing remains delayed for Alicia Latoya Andrews, who was tried separately and convicted of manslaughter in the case, while these four men face their June 22 hearing.
