Ex-DUP leader Donaldson to be sentenced for child sex abuse including rape
Donaldson was convicted of 18 historical sex offences against two women who were children, and Judge Paul Ramsey has warned of a lengthy prison term.
Former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson is due to be sentenced today at Newry Crown Court for 18 historical sex offences against two women when they were children.
In June, a jury convicted the 63-year-old of offences committed between 1985 and 2008, including one count of rape, 13 counts of indecent assault, and four counts of gross indecency.
Judge Paul Ramsey previously warned Donaldson he faces a "lengthy sentence," while victim impact statements detailed how Complainant A felt "exhausted" carrying her experience for years.
Donaldson has remained in Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim awaiting sentencing, though his solicitor confirmed papers have been lodged for an appeal of his convictions.
Since his conviction, the former politician was stripped of his knighthood, and his wife, Eleanor Donaldson, awaits a separate hearing next month for aiding and abetting.
