Jury Awards $176M for Wrongful Deaths of Young Brothers Struck by California Socialite's Car
Jurors found Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson negligent and awarded damages for wrongful death and emotional distress to the boys' family.
- On Wednesday, a Los Angeles County jury awarded $176 million to Nancy and Karim Iskander, finding Southern California socialite Rebecca Grossman and former Major League Baseball player Scott Erickson liable for the 2020 hit-and-run collision killing their sons Mark and Jacob.
- Attorney Brian Panish argued Grossman and Erickson raced toward the intersection after drinking on Sept. 29, 2020, in Westlake Village, with Grossman driving 73 mph in a 45 mph zone.
- Financial damages include $107 million for the parents, an additional $35 million for Nancy, and $34 million for their son Zachary, despite defense attorney Esther Holm claiming, "Ms. Grossman was not driving impaired."
- Grossman was sentenced in 2024 to serve 15 years to life in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run driving in a separate criminal trial.
- Court was scheduled to resume Friday as jurors must still decide whether to award punitive damages to the Iskanders, following attorney Brian Panish's closing argument that this was a "totally preventable collision.
