John Farnham Confirms the Worst as The Voice Silenced
The one-night concert will feature more than 120 artists and raise funds for head and neck cancer charities, promoters said.
Australian music icon John Farnham will be celebrated at "The Songs of John Farnham: A Living Legend" concert on September 20 at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena, featuring superstars Celine Dion and Hugh Jackman.
Farnham, 76, retired from performing four years ago following a lifesaving 12-hour surgery to remove oral cancer, confirming on Friday he will never sing in public again.
More than 120 artists will perform at the one-night show, with proceeds benefiting Head and Neck Cancer Australia; tickets go on sale Tuesday, June 2, via Ticketek Australia.
Promoter Tony Cochrane said it took significant work to convince Farnham, who initially rejected the tribute twice, feeling "terribly uncomfortable" with the attention before eventually agreeing.
Farnham expressed humility about the event, stating he is "gobsmacked" that so many artists agreed to participate in a night about "giving something back and supporting a cause that means a great deal to me.
