Joel Embiid made an interesting suggestion about LeBron James — and it worked
Embiid said James’ championship mindset could help Philadelphia contend, and the pair combined for 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists from James.
- On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the New York Knicks 106-100, with Joel Embiid crediting the victory to LeBron James' "championship mentality."
- With Embiid in foul trouble after picking up his third foul during a four-minute span in the second quarter, he suggested to coaches that James guard Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns instead.
- Embiid told The Athletic that James brings "championship mentality," adding he has "not really had that championship mentality around me" throughout his career.
- Despite the win, Philadelphia shot just 27.5% from 3-point range and trailed 14-6 in offensive rebounds, prompting James to admit the team needs time to develop chemistry.
- James, who signed a two-year contract in July, believes the 76ers' versatility and adaptability could make them a legitimate title contender in the Eastern Conference.
