Joe Sakic Plans to Indefinitely Stay in GM Role for Avs with No Search Scheduled, AP Source Says
Team sources said Sakic will stay in the general manager job full time, and Colorado has no plans for a replacement search.
- On Monday, Colorado Avalanche President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic committed to the general manager role full-time, with team sources confirming no plans to conduct a search for a replacement.
- The Nashville Predators hired former general manager Chris MacFarland this summer, offering him a promotion to president of hockey operations and a multi-year contract that prompted his departure from Colorado.
- During the offseason, Sakic signed defenseman Cale Makar to a $163.2 million, eight-year extension in late August and added forward Jaden Schwartz on a three-year contract.
- As the Avalanche prepare for training camp later this week, head coach Jared Bednar's contract status remains uncertain, though Sakic has expressed little concern about negotiating a new deal.
- Sakic, who led Colorado to the 2022 Stanley Cup title, reportedly feels "reinvigorated" resuming the GM role, with the front office positioned to pursue another championship with its vision intact.
