Cooley Makes 36 Saves to Help Flames to 2-1 Victory over Wild
Devin Cooley gets the start despite a 1-2-0 record and .868 save percentage, while Mikael Backlund is listed as injured.
On Thursday, the Calgary Flames defeated the Minnesota Wild 2-1, with goaltender Devin Cooley making 36 saves to earn his second consecutive home victory.
Playing without captain Mikael Backlund, listed as "injured," the Flames deployed former Wild centre Ben Jones for his season debut against his previous team.
Aydar Suniev scored his first career power-play goal, and Joel Farabee added another shortly after, marking the Flames' first multi-goal power-play performance of the season.
Minnesota forward Michael McCarron scored the lone goal for the Wild, but Cooley preserved the lead by diving to save a shot from Matt Boldy with 2:03 remaining.
The Flames host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, while the Wild travel to visit the Seattle Kraken on the same night.
