João Klauss Scores 10th Goal and the LA Galaxy Beat Austin 4-1 to Keep Alive Their Playoff Hopes
Joao Klauss, Hirving Lozano, Robert Taylor and Sergi Roberto scored as Los Angeles moved within three points of sixth place.
On Saturday, the LA Galaxy defeated Austin FC 4-1 at Dignity Health Sports Park, with Joao Klauss and Hirving Lozano scoring first-half goals before 17,238 fans in the final home game of the regular season.
Facing potential elimination from playoff contention, the Galaxy moved to 11-11-11 with 44 points, placing them seventh in the Western Conference standings with one regular-season match remaining.
Robert Taylor and Sergi Roberto added second-half goals to secure the Galaxy's season-high four-goal output. Austin's Ervin Torres scored in the 54th minute, but the Galaxy maintained control.
Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said, "It's always good to go into the final weekend and know that you don't have to scoreboard watch." The win ensures the club controls its own playoff destiny.
The Galaxy conclude their regular season November 7 at Real Salt Lake, where a win or draw guarantees a playoff spot; anything less requires favorable results elsewhere to advance.
