MLS releases 14-game schedule for shortened 2027 season ahead of calendar switch
Each of the 30 teams will play 14 conference games before a single-elimination playoff bracket decides the sprint season champion.
Major League Soccer unveiled its 2027 'sprint season' schedule on Thursday, featuring an abbreviated campaign from February through May with Toronto hosting Montreal on Feb. 27 as the lone all-Canadian matchup.
This interim 'sprint season' serves as a transition as MLS moves toward a fall-to-spring calendar starting in July; each of the 30 teams will play 14 conference games with the top eight in each conference qualifying for single-elimination playoffs.
Games leaguewide will now start at the top of the hour instead of the bottom, and every match throughout the abbreviated season will be available exclusively on Apple.
Canadian teams conclude their regular-season play on May 8, with Vancouver Whitecaps visiting San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto hosting Inter Miami, and Montreal beginning its campaign on the road against Charlotte on Feb. 21.
The sprint season culminates with The MLS Cup final scheduled for the last weekend of May, though the single-elimination playoff structure is currently set only for this 2027 campaign.
This Thursday announced the calendaring of the Sprint Season, a short-lived championship (February to May), before the United States league was homologated with the main competitions of the orb. Alexis Sánchez's Montreal will debut visiting Charlotte.
The 2026 campaign will be the last in the current format. There will be a transition tournament before the new cycle, which will include a winter break.
