Jesse Ventura defends streamer Hasan Piker ahead of controversial Minneapolis event
- On Monday evening, Rep. Ilhan Omar and State Sen. Omar Fateh hosted an event with Hasan Piker at the Theatre in the Round in Minneapolis titled "I'm the Host Now!"
- The Jewish Community Relations Council called the decision "a betrayal of Jewish Minnesotans and/harmful to the broader public" due to Piker's past inflammatory comments, including that "America deserved 9/11."
- Rep. Angie Craig, Amy Klobuchar, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey all criticized the appearance, with Craig denouncing Piker's rhetoric as "polarizing and dangerous."
- Democratic Socialists member Janette Corcelius countered that condemning the event was a "big mistake," arguing it was an opportunity to galvanize youth voters unrepresented by the Democratic Party.
- With Election Day approaching, the 245-seat venue event underscored growing tensions between traditional DFL Party leadership and the democratic-socialist wing seeking younger voters.
