TRIBUNE. The lawyer Jérémie Assous, counsel of Gérard Depardieu, responds to a stand in the "World" published on 28 March, which denounced the sexism of defence lawyers during the trial of the actor.

How is France any better than Turkey, where Erdogan had the only credible opposition leader arrested, or Russia, where Putin did the same to Navalny? These two opponents were also convicted of alleged financial malpractice. That is the most pliable category of crimes: if you look long enough, you can find something in anyone. A far-reaching example is Trump’s conviction for an accounting error that would normally be a misdemeanor.
