Jennifer Lopez in the rain, dolphins on T-shirts: Stella McCartney declares war on seafood in Paris – WTOP News
On Wednesday, designer Stella McCartney declared war on the fishing industry at her Paris Fashion Week show in the British ambassador's gardens, marking 25 years of her label's commitment to cruelty-free fashion.
Marking 25 years since her debut, McCartney centered the spring/summer 2027 collection on marine life, collaborating with marine biologist and oceanographer Sylvia Earle to frame humans as immersed within nature rather than above it.
Models walked through greenery to musician PJ Harvey's "Down by the Water" while Jennifer Lopez watched from the front row; Karlie Kloss modeled a dress with curling wave motifs emphasizing the "under the sea" theme.
McCartney stated "Its war" regarding unsustainable fishing practices that harm dolphins and octopuses, while the collection utilized 100% responsible materials including algae-based pigment and wool alternatives fermented by Japanese biotech firm Spiber.
Beyond the runway, McCartney co-founded The Climate Pledge Fashion Coalition with Amazon and Canopy a week before the show, pooling orders from more than 60 companies to scale sustainable materials while advising LVMH chief Bernard Arnault on sustainability.
