- Kent's statistical résumé shows a.290 batting average, 377 homers and 1,518 RBIs, but he spent 10 years on the Baseball Writers' Association of America ballot, peaking at 46.5%.
- The 16-person committee, which included Hall of Famers and executives, gave Carlos Delgado nine votes, Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy six each, while Bonds, Clemens, Sheffield and Valenzuela received fewer than five votes under new Hall rules.
