Goaltender Jaroslav Halak Retires After 17 Years in the NHL, Two Years Removed From Last Game
NORTH AMERICA, JUL 18 – Jaroslav Halak retires after 17 NHL seasons with 295 wins, two William M. Jennings Trophies, and notable playoff performances, ending his career at age 40.
On Friday, July 18, 2025, Jaroslav Halak officially retired from the NHL, concluding a career that spanned 17 years at the top professional level.
Halak's career began as a ninth-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2003, and he last played an NHL game for the New York Rangers in April 2023.
Throughout his professional journey, Halak played in goal for 581 NHL contests across seven teams, earned the Jennings Trophy on two occasions, and represented both Slovakia and Team Europe in international competitions.
Halak finished his career with a 295-189-69 record and a.915 save percentage, reflecting on his achievements by saying that although reaching 300 wins would have been ideal, he is content with his total of 295 victories.
After completing summer training last year without new opportunities, Halak accepted ending his career and expressed gratitude to his family and fans as he moves forward.
