Japan PM Ishiba Meets with Former Prime Ministers; They Discuss ‘Sense of Crisis’ Following Election Defeat
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Wednesday held talks with three former prime ministers at the Liberal Democratic Party’s headquarters, during which they spoke about their “sense of crisis” following the LDP’s decisive defeat in Sunday’s House of Councillors election. The meeting was attended by former prime ministers Fumio Kishida, Taro Aso and Yoshihide Suga, as well as LDP’s Secretary General Hiroshi Moriyama.
The Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, after a sharp decline in his party in the Senate elections on Sunday 20 July, denied the rumours of his resignation. In the midst of economic turmoil and the threat of American customs barriers, he ensured that he remained the man of the situation.
Following the LDP's crushing defeat in the House of Councillors election on the 23rd, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba (President of the Liberal Democratic Party) met with three former prime ministers, Chief Advisor Taro Aso, Vice President Yoshihide Suga, and former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, at the party headquarters. After the meeting, he told reporters, "We shared a strong sense of crisis. The party must never be divided."
