According to a survey, almost half of East Germans are dissatisfied with how German democracy works.
In view of current surveys, one has to fear that the Germans increasingly renounce democracy. However, according to the German monitor, they mostly trust democracy. But authoritarian ideas are also present - in East and West Germany.
For the "Deutschland-Monitor" thousands of Germans were questioned about their attitude to democracy and dictator. Many people were dissatisfied with the functioning of democracy.
One-party rule or strong leaders: According to a study, the Germans become more open to authoritarianism. This is particularly true in structurally weak regions in the East.
In a comprehensive study, around 8000 people have been interviewed, including democracy and dictatorship. Not a few show themselves open to authoritarian ideas.
According to the new "Deutschland-Monitor" the dissatisfaction with democracy remains high. But only in East Germany this has to do with the local economic situation. Almost half of the East Germans (49 per cent) are dissatisfied with the functioning of democracy in Germany. 14 per cent were even "very dissatisfied".
