Jackson doesn’t regret telling Collins to ‘shut up’ after protester interrupted Maine Senate debate
Jackson said he does not regret the remark after Collins suggested a protester backing a 19-year-old student had disrupted the debate.
During the final debate Thursday, Maine Democrat Troy Jackson told Sen. Susan Collins to "shut up" after she suggested a protester was a campaign backer, though Jackson later stated he does not regret the remark.
Henry Elgie, a 19-year-old Bowdoin College student in Maine, told The New York Times on Saturday that he had "zero coordination" with Jackson's campaign, stating, "I do not know Troy Jackson personally or at all."
Advocacy group The Sunrise Movement, which champions the Green New Deal, posted on Instagram that the protester was one of its members who "took action" during the debate.
On Friday, Collins told Fox News' Sean Hannity she was "struck by how reflective the response" was, citing Jackson's reputation for being aggressive when dealing with women in the Legislature.
Jackson defended his response, stating he is "fighting for Mainers" and refuses to be "talked down to" by Collins, while rejecting Republican claims regarding his history with women.
