BAE Systems to Support Airborne Electronic Attack Capabilities for Italy
ITALY, JUL 21 – Italy will operate two EA-37B Compass Call aircraft providing advanced electronic warfare and long-range jamming to enhance interoperability with the U.S. Air Force, under a $300 million contract.
- On July 21, 2025, the Italian government signed the acquisition contract for two EA-37B Compass Call aircraft, announced by L3Harris.
- Earlier this year, the U.S. State Department approved the FMS for the EA-37B and its Electronic Attack Mission System, enabling Italy's first EA-37B sale.
- The modified G550s will provide airborne long-range jamming to disrupt enemy command and control, while L3Harris, teaming with BAE Systems, which under a USD 12 million subcontract will provide racks, radomes, cables and harnesses, conducts the modifications.
- Italy will become one of the few operators with a combat-proven Electronic Attack capability, while Jason Lambert said `We are expanding our support of Italy’s armed forces by equipping them with modern mission technology.`
- The programme will expand Italy’s G550-based special mission aircraft fleet, `We will be working on these aircraft and building them with the Italian air force in the coming years`, Jon Rambeau said.
