ISRO’s 51.7-Metre Giant Gets Ready to Put India’s Eye in the Sky

While several earth observation satellites operate from low earth orbit (LEO), the EOS-5 satellite is set to hover at an altitude of roughly 36,000 km above earth, which is the geosynchronous orbit and at that level, the satellite will match Earth's rotational speed.
ISRO launched the EOS-05, also known as GISAT-1A, satellite on September 4, 2026, aboard a GSLV-F17. It will take images of India every 30 minutes from an altitude of 36,000 kilometers. This mission is crucial for disaster management and agricultural monitoring.
