Israeli fire kills four people in Gaza, medics say
Health officials said strikes and gunfire killed at least 3 Palestinians as Israel pressed attacks it says target Hamas violations of the ceasefire.
On Thursday, Israeli strikes and gunfire killed at least three people in separate incidents across the Gaza Strip, according to Gaza Health Ministry officials, with casualties in Gaza City, Khan Younis, and near the Jabalia refugee camp.
Israeli forces are expanding control within Gaza, with military operations affecting nearly two-thirds of the territory. Jazeera reporter Hani Mahmoud explained that troops have been "taking more land since the ceasefire," moving from northern areas inward.
In Gaza City's Tal Al-Hawa neighbourhood, an Israeli strike hit a vehicle, killing one person and seriously injuring another. Photos showed emergency crews in orange vests spraying water on the burning wreckage as crowds gathered.
The Gaza Health Ministry reports that at least 1,538 Palestinians have been killed since the "ceasefire" began last year, while Israel reports four soldiers have been killed during the conflict.
Little progress has been made toward a lasting peace as negotiators have failed to agree on terms for Hamas to disarm. Israel maintains that Hamas has been rearming in violation of the year-old ceasefire.
A car hit killed two people in Gaza City, another hit killed a Palestinian cyclist in the city of Khan Younis, and a woman was hit near the Jabalia refugee camp.
