Israeli Drone Injures UN Peacekeeper in Lebanon
Israeli drone attacks have wounded one UNIFIL peacekeeper and violated UN Security Council Resolution 1701 for the second time this month, amid ongoing border tensions.
On Saturday, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon said an Israeli drone dropped a grenade just before noon near its position in Kafer Kela, lightly wounding one peacekeeper.
Earlier this month, UNIFIL said Israeli drones on Oct. 2 dropped several grenades near peacekeepers and Lebanese soldiers in Maroun al-Ras, marking the second attack this month and third in just over a month.
UN observers spotted two Israeli drones near the UNIFIL position shortly before the explosion, and the Israeli military confirmed it dropped the grenade to disperse 'suspects' at a Hezbollah site.
The UN Interim Force in Lebanon condemned the attack as a serious violation of resolution 1701 and urged the Israeli army to cease strikes near peacekeepers.
Broader context shows that despite the November ceasefire, Israel has continued near-daily strikes in southern Lebanon and maintains five border outposts after missing the Feb. 18 withdrawal deadline.
The Final is working with the Lebanese army to implement the ceasefire that ended more than a year of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel in November 2024.
