Israel sends more troops to West Bank village besieged by Jewish settlers
Israeli forces say they deployed to protect residents as settlers blocked food and water, and the UN said 15 Palestinians were trapped inside homes.
- On Thursday, Israeli troops occupied six Palestinian homes in the West Bank village of Qusra after settlers besieged families, Qusra mayor Abed Athem Wadi reported. Soldiers evacuated the houses, trapping residents inside without access to basic resources.
- The siege began over the weekend when settlers blocked roads to three homes, set up a tent, and cut off water and electricity. Trapped resident Qusay Abu Reeda appealed: "We appeal to government institutions and to every free and honourable person to help us secure food and medicine."
- United Nations officials reported that 15 Palestinians, including two children, are trapped in a state of terror without access to water or electricity. The Israeli military stated soldiers were deployed to maintain security and "were instructed that the Qusra residents will remain in their homes."
- U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee condemned the siege, saying the military and police "have gone at our request to remove the Israeli terrorists doing this." Huckabee added that "the actions of those doing this to this family's home is criminal."
- According to Israeli settlement watchdog Peace Now, the West Bank is home to 500,000 settlers and 390 outposts. The region remains under complete Israeli security control, where settler land seizures are reportedly common.
