Israel says remains of 2 more hostages transferred by Hamas under Gaza deal
- On Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, Hamas handed over the remains of two hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza hours after U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived.
- Since the ceasefire began on Oct. 10, the remains of 13 hostages agreed under the Trump administration's ceasefire agreement have been returned to Israel.
- Hamas warned `significant efforts and special equipment` are needed to recover bodies, and Vance said `It is a focus of everybody here to get those bodies back home to their families, so that they can have a proper burial. Now, that said, this is difficult. This is not going to happen overnight` in Israel.
- Under the exchange terms, Gaza's Health Ministry said Israel will release 15 Palestinian bodies per dead hostage, while the Israel Defense Forces urged families to await official identifications after last week's mix-up.
- Although some 200 U.S. troops were recently sent to Israel, JD Vance said they would not enter Gaza as officials conceptualize an international security force with Turkey and Indonesia.
