NETANYAHU: ISLAMIST INDOCTRINATION TO BLAME
On Wednesday, a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv diverted to Saudi Arabia after a co-pilot attacked the captain, forcing the plane into a 17,000-foot nosedive before passengers and crew subdued the assailant.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Omani co-pilot "underwent Islamic radical indoctrination" and sought to crash the plane, citing "Islamist tendencies" in his background as evidence of intent.
During a video call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, Captain Smit Machchhar described fighting to keep the plane airborne while severely wounded, stating, "In that moment, I was fighting for my life."
Saudi Arabia and Israeli officials have launched investigations into the attack's circumstances, with two Israeli officials telling Reuters the initial assessment is that the pilot was acting alone.
Israeli officials emphasize it is too early to draw conclusions regarding outside involvement, as authorities continue reviewing the pilot's personal effects for evidence of broader coordination or conspiracy.
