England Captain Vows to Walk Team Off if Racist Abuse Returns in Argentina
Jamie George said England are ready to leave the field if racial abuse is repeated, after two Black players were targeted last year.
On Saturday, England captain Jamie George said he is willing to walk his team off the field if they face racial abuse in Argentina during the Nations Championship match.
Last year in San Juan, England Black players Asher Opoku-Fordjour and Chandler Cunningham-South were racially targeted by spectators; World Rugby condemned the abuse but could not identify the perpetrators.
George is collaborating with affected teammates, including Opoku-Fordjour, to determine their response. He stated, "We've had discussions around 'what if?'" and confirmed the team has a "plan B" if protocols fail.
Returning to Buenos Aires on Sunday, England plans to move its hotel away from the Obelisk, the center of Argentina's soccer World Cup semifinal celebrations, to avoid crowds.
Under coach Steve Borthwick, England has won all five matches against Argentina. George described the fixture as "a big rivalry now," expecting the proud Argentine side to be desperate on their home turf.
