Seventeen-year-old Japanese figure skater Ami Nakai made a stunning ISU Grand Prix series debut on Friday, topping the Grand Prix de France women's short program ahead of compatriot Kaori Sakamoto in second place.
At the opening round of the figure skating Grand Prix (GP) series in France, Nakai Ami overcame the pressure of her final run and surpassed Sakamoto Kaori's score, erupting in joy. This was the first year of the Senior GP and she had positioned the tournament as a test of her strength. "I never thought I would be able to win in my debut match. I'm so happy," she said.
