Is Toyota Teasing the Next-Gen GR Celica While Testing Its New 2027 WRC Prototype?

On Thursday, Toyota photographed testing a camouflaged two‑door coupe in the Algarve, linked to a possible Celica return and reports saying it may replace the GR Yaris for 2027 WRC.
New 2027 WRC rules permit a `road car body` over a spaceframe using the current GR Yaris Rally2 mechanical package, while organizers redesigned the rules to cut costs by sharing more components with Rally2 machines.
Tom Fowler, Toyota technical director, said the prototype test car is running and the design team is working through feedback and improvements after more than 2,000 kilometers.
Only Toyota and Project Rally One have publicly committed to developing new cars for 2027, while Toyota Australia declined to comment on production or local-sale plans.
