Iranian foreign minister says “we do not plan on any negotiations” with the United States
Iran is reviewing a 15-point US proposal delivered via Pakistan but rejects negotiations, citing distrust and demanding war conditions be met before any talks, officials said.
- On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected direct U.S. negotiations, stating exchanges through mediators do not constitute talks. Araghchi said Iran will not negotiate while under attack, though Tehran is reviewing a 15-point U.S. proposal conveyed by Pakistan.
- The United States delivered the 15-point proposal via Pakistan addressing uranium enrichment, ballistic missiles, and the Strait of Hormuz, reportedly demanding removal of highly enriched uranium stocks and cuts to funding for regional allies.
- More than 1,750 people have been killed in Iran since February 28, with 22,800 injured and 3 million displaced, according to Iran's deputy permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization. Pentagon plans to deploy approximately 1,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Gulf.
- Despite Tehran's initial negative response, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed "productive" talks continue. Washington maintains a four-to-six-week timeline, with President Donald Trump stating his preference is "always peace."
- Iranian military sources warned they could pose a "credible threat" to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which carries approximately 12% of global seaborne-traded oil annually. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned the world faces escalation risks and urged diplomatic efforts.
