Iran’s parliament speaker warned the US against a ground invasion, threatening harsh retaliation as regional powers meet in Pakistan to seek an end to the monthlong conflict.
- On Sunday, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the United States of secretly planning a "ground attack" while publicly seeking negotiations, warning Iranian forces are "waiting for the arrival of American troops on the ground to set them on fire."
- The accusations followed the arrival of the USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship carrying around 3,500 Marines and sailors, in the Middle East on Friday as the Pentagon reportedly drafts plans for weeks of potential ground operations.
- Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt convened in Islamabad on Sunday to foster "direct dialogue" between the United States and Iran amid the monthlong war.
- Separately, the Revolutionary Guard warned Sunday that Israeli and American universities are "legitimate targets" unless the United States condemned strikes on Iranian universities by midday Monday, marking an escalation in targeting civilian institutions.
