A Trump playbook for ‘maximum pressure’ on Iran
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that Donald Trump would apply a policy of maximum pressure on Iran after taking office again.
Pompeo made these statements during a meeting with Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi in Auvers-sur-Oise, France.
The maximum pressure policy was first implemented after Trump abandoned the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, aiming to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Iran's human rights situation remains dire, with Amnesty International reporting that the country executed 74 percent of all recorded executions globally in 2023.
