Iran-backed Houthi leader in Yemen threatens escalation with Saudi Arabia

The Houthi leader said Saudi oil facilities and strategic infrastructure would be targeted if Riyadh escalates, after airport strikes on both sides.

  • On Thursday, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi threatened to strike Saudi oil facilities and vital infrastructure with missiles and drones if Riyadh escalates its involvement in the conflict.
  • The warning follows a rupture in a four-year truce after Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of bombing an airport under their control on Monday, ending the de-escalation period between the two sides.
  • Citing 2019 attacks on two key Saudi oil facilities, Al-Houthi declared, "The real equation today is Sanaa airport for Riyadh airport, airports for airports, ports for ports, and blockade for blockade."
  • Al-Houthi alleged "joint cells" operate between Saudi Arabia, Britain, and the United States, while claiming Israeli aircraft used Saudi airports for surveillance, calling it "a betrayal of the neighborhood and unjust aggression."
  • Thanking Iran for "its assistance in helping Yemen break the unjust blockade on its airports," Al-Houthi criticized Saudi Arabia for continuing restrictions on goods and passengers amid the humanitarian crisis.
