Czechs looking into possible Russian trail in fire at defence factory
The fire damaged facilities but did not affect delivery of 40 attack drones to Ukraine, with police investigating claims of anti-Israel protest and possible Russian involvement.
- On Monday, Czech police and defence company LPP said they are investigating a factory fire in Pardubice for possible links to Russian interests. The blaze occurred on Friday at a site 120 km east of Prague.
- Police are treating Friday's incident as a deliberate attack after Czech media received emails from a group protesting weapons for Israel that claimed responsibility for the blaze.
- The fire damaged production facilities and stored products, though LPP said the planned delivery of 40 attack drones to Ukraine was not disrupted. Preliminary reporting suggested the attack may have targeted drone production for Ukraine.
- LPP denied producing equipment for Israel and said planned cooperation with Israeli defence company Elbit Systems never materialized after 2023. Police declined to comment on the possible Russian link.
- Russia has routinely denied past accusations of hybrid attacks in neighbouring countries as baseless and driven by Russophobia. The reported targeting of drone production for Ukraine places the incident within broader concerns about threats to defence suppliers.
