Intel to Keep Working on Musk’s Terafab Chipmaking Venture, Bloomberg News Reports
On Wednesday, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan confirmed the company remains involved in Elon Musk's Terafab project during an event in Tokyo celebrating Intel's 50 years of operations in Japan.
Intel signed on in April as Terafab's first partner to design and package chips, while SpaceX and Tesla committed $16.8bn to the project in Grimes County, Texas.
Reports surfaced last week regarding potential cooperation between Musk's project and TSMC; Musk wrote, "Just discussions, but something may come of it," addressing the speculation.
Tan's comments provide clarity following reports that Intel's work on Terafab was not making progress, reaffirming the company's role alongside Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk envisions the plant producing one terawatt of computing power annually, with Terafab potentially serving as an anchor customer for TSMC's prospective Texas campus.
