INSTAGRAM PLATFORM, JUL 23 – Meta will apply Instagram's strictest message settings to adult-run accounts featuring children and limit exposure to suspicious users to reduce predatory contact, removing over 135,000 violating accounts this year.
- On Wednesday, Meta announced new protective measures for Instagram accounts run by adults featuring children.
- Concerns from the U.S. Surgeon General and states prompted further safeguards, while Meta noted it removed nearly 135,000 accounts for exploitation.
- The month and year an account joined appears in new chats, Meta enabled the Hidden Words filter, enhancing user protection.
- Meta said `we’re encouraged to see teens responding to them`, after blocking one million accounts and reporting another million in June.
- Soon, protections will apply across platforms, adding AI age-detection tools to identify adults lying about their age, Meta said.
