Prisoners guilty of murder after child killer found 'tucked up in bed' with 25 stab wounds
Prosecutors say CCTV shows the three inmates entered Bevan’s cell for 4 minutes and 39 seconds, and none has explained the killing.
On Wednesday, prosecutors concluded closing arguments at Leeds Crown Court in the trial of Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 57, and David Taylor, 64, accused of murdering 33-year-old Kyle Bevan at HMP Wakefield.
Prosecutor Jason Pitter KC described the killing as a 'carefully coordinated venture' where the defendants stabbed Bevan 25 times in under five minutes, then left him 'tidily tucked up in bed' appearing asleep.
Defense counsel argued no CCTV footage created an 'evidential black hole,' while none of the three defendants explained what happened in the cell, stating "because they can't," according to prosecutors.
Following his transfer, Taylor allegedly shouted "Nice working with you and the Iceman"—a nickname for Fellows—to Newell, which prosecutors claim showed pride in their "successful bit of business."
Defense lawyers appealed to the jury to ensure "everyone deserves a fair consideration of the evidence," warning against convicting defendants solely because they are murderers or because Bevan was a child killer.
