Injury-plagued Portland Fire battle to gritty victory against Connecticut Sun
Barker scored 18 points off the bench as Portland overcame injuries and 11 steals to edge Connecticut in a one-point win.
The Portland Fire closed their four-game homestand Monday with an 83-82 victory against the Connecticut Sun, marking the first-ever meeting between the two franchises.
Overcoming 14 lead changes, the Fire relied on key hustle plays to erase a late deficit, with Bridget Carleton and Emily Engstler executing critical defensive stops down the stretch.
Sarah Ashlee Barker and Carleton each posted 18 points to lead Portland, while Engstler contributed 15 points in the comeback effort.
Brittney Griner scored 16 points for the winless Sun, who remain 0-5 after a final desperation shot missed at the buzzer.
The 2-2 Fire travel to the Indiana Fever on Wednesday, while the Sun continue their five-game road trip against the Seattle Storm.
