Indian shares rise after Fed holds rates steady; earnings-led gains boost optimism
Benchmark gains were driven by foreign and domestic buying, while easing crude and strong earnings lifted banking, FMCG and Adani Ports.
On Thursday, October 29, 2026, benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty rose in early trade, driven by buying in blue-chip stock Reliance Industries and foreign fund inflows.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments, said the Federal Reserve's rate pause at about 3.9% and sustained institutional support improved market risk appetite despite external headwinds.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 1.24% to 74,151.04, while the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 1.05%. Adani Ports gained over 5% after reporting an 18% increase in consolidated net profit.
Foreign Institutional Investors bought equities worth ₹871.83 crore on Wednesday, while DIIs also purchased shares worth ₹643.35 crore, according to exchange data.
Asian markets were mixed, with South Korea's Kospi falling 3% while Japan's Nikkei 225 benchmark remained flat. Near-term momentum hinges on domestic earnings and energy prices, Nair noted.
Stock Market Rally Today: The Sensex and Nifty suddenly changed their trajectory on Thursday. After a slow start, the BSE Sensex jumped by more than 600 points in one go. The Nifty also appeared to be in a frenzy.
