Reservation chart set to be prepared eight hours prior to departure of train
- Indian Railways announced on June 29, 2025, that reservation charts will be prepared eight hours before train departures in New Delhi.
- This change from the previous four-hour window aims to reduce uncertainty for waitlisted passengers and help them make alternative plans.
- The Passenger Reservation System upgrade, overseen by CRIS, will boost ticket booking capacity to 1.5 lakh per minute, a fivefold increase.
- From the beginning of July next year, the IRCTC platform will require verified user authentication via Aadhaar or government ID linked through DigiLocker to book Tatkal tickets, promoting greater transparency in the booking process.
- These phased reforms, endorsed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, intend to create a smarter, faster, and more passenger-centric rail ticketing system.
