Indian eVTOL developer Sarla signs deal with Hexcel for the supply of composites
Indian eVTOL develop Sarla has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Hexcel Corporation for the supply of aerospace-grade composite materials. “For an eVTOL, structural weight is a primary design driver,” said the company in a Linkedin post. “Every kilogram in the airframe is a kilogram taken from payload, range or battery. The materials an aircraft is made of shape what that aircraft is finally able to do. That is exactly the thinking behind this partnership. Hexcel is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of advanced aerospace-grade composites, with materials qualified on commercial and defence aircraft programmes flying today. By combining Hexcel’s materials and engineering support with Sarla’s aircraft programme, the two companies will work together through development, qualification and production.” As part of this collaboration, Sarla intends to purchase from Hexcel aerospace-grade prepregs and carbon and glass fibre reinforcements for Sarla’s airframe, honeycomb core, adhesive and surfacing films for primary and secondary structures and technical engineering support on material selection and structural design. The companies will also work together on qualification and testing of materials to applicable airworthiness standards.
