India Successfully Test-Fires Pralay Missiles

The salvo test of two Pralay missiles demonstrated reliable performance, moving the indigenous missile system closer to induction, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said.

  • On Wednesday, two Pralay missiles were launched one after another in a salvo from the same launcher at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, with telemetry and tracking sensors confirming both met flight objectives.
  • The Pralay project, sanctioned in March 2015, has undergone developmental trials led by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad with multiple DRDO laboratories and industry partners.
  • The Pralay is a five-tonne, composite-propellant missile carrying a one-tonne payload with a 350 km range, extendable to 500 km with reduced payload and advanced guidance systems.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, DPSUs and industry, saying officials confirmed the salvo's success established the missile's reliability.
  • The test highlights Pralay's ability to counter high-altitude threats and missile-defence systems, as a defence scientist said it flies at hypersonic speed and can 'delude the ballistic missile defence of the enemy'.
