INDIA, JUL 17 – The five-year agreement secures annual delivery of 3.1 million metric tons of Diammonium Phosphate fertilizer to India, enhancing supply stability for farmers, officials said.
- On July 18, 2025, Union Minister JP Nadda returned from a three-day visit to Dammam and Riyadh, where Maaden and Indian companies signed long-term fertilizer supply agreements.
- India and Saudi Arabia have long-standing trade ties, prompting efforts to secure fertilizer supplies and deepen strategic relations, as both nations sought to enhance agricultural security.
- Highlighting the scale of the pact, the contracts ensure 3.1 million metric tons of DAP fertilizer annually from 2025-26, compared with 1.9 million metric tons imported in 2024-25 .
- These deals will increase fertilizer supplies for Indian farmers, and officials also agreed to expand cooperation on urea and research customised fertilizers.
- Looking ahead, Nadda's meetings with Saudi leaders aim to deepen cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and digital health solutions, with bilateral trade reaching USD 42.98 billion in 2023-24.
