India Exports First Batch of Rose-Scented Litchis to Qatar
- On June 23, 2025, India shipped its inaugural international batch of 1.5 tonnes of fragrant litchis grown in the northern region of Pathankot to markets in Doha and Dubai.
- This export followed government efforts to diversify and expand the agri-export basket, supported by APEDA, Punjab’s horticulture department, and farmer Prabhat Singh.
- Punjab produced 71,490 tonnes of litchis in 2023-24, contributing 12.39% to India’s total output, while a total of 639.53 tonnes of litchis were exported nationwide that year.
- India’s fruit and vegetable shipments increased by 5.67% compared to the previous year, reaching a total value of USD 3.87 billion in FY 2024-25, with the ministry highlighting this achievement as a testament to the quality of the country’s horticultural products.
- This consignment marks a key step in boosting India’s global competitiveness in high-value fresh produce and offers new market opportunities for farming communities.
