India’s purchase of Russian crude was driven by its own energy requirements and national development goals and not by any desire to help Moscow, said Denis Alipov, Russian Ambassador to India, defending the bilateral energy trade amid continued Western pressure on New Delhi.
The Western sanctions on Russia in 2022 changed the global oil trade landscape. Since then, India has been buying Russian oil at relatively low prices. As a result, it has been possible to control the cost of raw materials for the country's oil refineries. The supply has also remained uninterrupted.
