Lithuania Will Teach Schoolchildren How to Build Drones

  • Lithuania announced a plan to teach over 22,000 citizens, including children aged eight and above, to build and pilot drones by 2028.
  • This initiative responds to recent incidents of Russian drones crossing from Belarus and aims to strengthen Lithuania's defenses against possible Russian aggression.
  • The program, led by Lithuania's defense and education ministries, will open nine drone training centers, with three ready by September 2025, and include courses from basic construction to 3D drone design.
  • Vice-Minister Tomas Godliauskas said the training will deepen children’s technical literacy through games, programming, piloting indoors, and building FPV drones in higher grades.
  • The project reflects growing Baltic efforts to prepare civilians for drone warfare, as regional countries simultaneously develop detection systems and civil resistance capabilities.
