A national memorial to the victims of slavery will be erected at the Trocadero Gardens

The monument should highlight “nearly 200,000 names of slaves freed in 1848 in Guadeloupe, Guyana, Reunion, and Martinique”, said the ministry in charge of overseas territories and the City.

On Thursday, September 21, the city of Paris and the Ministry in charge of Overseas announced the location of the future memorial, promised by Emmanuel Macron in 2018.
