A Kennedy Scion Loses in a Crowded, Pricey New York City Congressional Primary
The race drew heavy spending and competing endorsements as AI companies backed rival candidates and Democrats held a two-thirds voter edge.
On Tuesday, Democratic Congressional Candidate Jack Schlossberg lost New York's 12th Congressional District primary to Assembly Member Micah Lasher in a closely watched Manhattan race.
Artificial intelligence interests turned the campaign into an expensive proxy fight, flooding the district with mailers and ads against Alex Bores over his legislative record on regulation.
Competing endorsements from Carolyn Maloney and Rep. Jerry Nadler split the field, while Schlossberg, the 33-year-old grandson of President John F. Kennedy, faced questions about his limited professional resume throughout the race.
At his Manhattan watch party, Schlossberg reiterated that Democrats need candidates "who are willing to speak plainly about the cost of living, about corruption and fearlessly about the Constitution."
Lasher is now well-positioned for the November general election to succeed the retiring Rep. Nadler, as Democrats make up two-thirds of the district's registered voters.
