Speaker Johnson dismisses skeptics as he campaigns for House GOP in Maine battleground
Johnson called the Maine 2nd District a top-five race as Republican groups shift $10 million into the contest.
House Speaker Mike Johnson visited Maine's 2nd District on Wednesday to campaign for former Gov. Paul LePage, calling the race "a top five race in America right now."
The Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with Johnson, is shifting $10 million into 16 other districts as Republicans fight to maintain their narrow House majority.
LePage is competing against State Auditor Matt Dunlap for the district, which President Donald Trump previously won but is currently held by retiring Democrat Jared Golden.
At a Sea Dog Brewing Co. event, Johnson urged supporters to discount polls and emphasized that "voter turnout is critical" to defying historical midterm trends.
Johnson is executing a campaign blitz across more than 20 states and 40 districts, as control of the House may come down to about 22 districts before the Nov election.
