Italy is celebrating the EU's rules on migrant deportations as a diplomatic and political success. The center-right Italian government sees it as a breakthrough that has made the creation of collection points outside the borders and the reduction of bureaucracy a cornerstone of the European strategy.
Strongly opposed to illegal immigration, the head of the Italian government voted in favour of the regulation adopted this Thursday in the European Parliament, which provides for the establishment of detention centres in countries outside the EU.
