Jailed İstanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has told a court that prosecutors pressured İstanbul University into annulling his university diploma last year, decades after it was issued, claiming that the move was politically timed to block his presidential bid, Deutsche Welle Turkish service reported on Thursday.
The hearing for the lawsuit filed by Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from his position as Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), against the cancellation of his undergraduate diploma is taking place in Silivri. Tensions arose between those who tried to cross the security barricade and the gendarmerie teams before the hearing.
